Renewable energy information resource
As the authorities battle it out over the pros and cons of nuclear v. renewable energy - or whether to build massive plans like the Severn barrage - there are many schemes going ahead in the background as renewable energy becomes more and more popular.
We believe that, similarly to the current, largely consumer led, organic food revolution, that renewable energy use is being led largely by us - the public.
There are things to consider - expense is one - but they said that about organic food too - it's not insurmountable - and as use goes up, prices come down. New technological ideas are mushrooming in this industry. It's providing new avenues for farmers to diversify; new jobs in areas where there have been few. There's a quiet revolution going on.
The purpose of these pages is to bring into one place a view of the scale of this revolution - and to encourage it! So you can see for yourself how much things are changing. There are challenges - the continuing debate over wind turbines, dangers to bird life, eyesores on the countryside, submerging valleys to create hydropower, environmental damage as with the proposed Severn barrage. Then there are the mishaps - the wind turbine that caught fire, a blade that shattered in a gale, shadow flicker affecting inmates of a prison, wind turbines causing peat bogs to slip. These are all symptomatic of it being a new industry - we're on a big learning curve here.
These are not campaigning pages - but we are passionate about doing whatever we can to help us move forward.
